En Horny Trash ya hemos hablado anteriormente de The Great divide". Los parisinos han presentado dos EPs en apenas dos años y ya están preparando su próximo largo. Tuvimos la oportunidad de lanzarles unas cuantas preguntas y este fue el resultado. Gracia a Olivier de Useless Pride records por ayudarnos con esta entrevista.

¿Quiénes son "The great divide"?
The Great Divide somos Sébastien, vocalista; Clément, guitarra; Michaël, bajo; Julien, baterista y cantante y yo, Antoine, guitarra.
¿Cómo se formó la banda?
En 2011, cuando Sébastien y el ex bajista Fabien decidieron crear una banda de hardcore moderno parisino con amigos y miembros de bandas francesas que les gustaban. Las cosas se hicieron reales en mayo de 2012 cuando lanzamos nuestro primer EP "Tales of Innocence and Experience." Ofrecimos a Scott Wade participar en "Leave Tomorrow" fue un comienzo increíble para nosotros, y todavía se sienten sus buenas consecuencias.
Definís vuestro estilo como "Modern Hardcore." ¿Puedes explicarnos los conceptos de este estilo?
Básicamente, utilizamos elementos de hardcore vieja escuela mezclado con elementos de punk rock melódico para hacerlo mas fresco, diría yo. También incorpora post-hardcore y atmósferas y ritmos post-rock . Pero, honestamente, no sé donde viene el término.
¿Como hemos llegado a ello? Oh boy.
¿Cual es la filosofía TGD?
Lo principal para nosotros es nuestra actitud positiva. Estamos sorprendidos de tener la oportunidad de compartir nuestro sonido con todo el mundo. Para nosotros, los shows son como fiestas, o pequeñas celebraciones. Son momentos que tienes que ser impulsado por la buena energía. Además, míranos! No somos chicos duros, sería estúpido abogar por la violencia y la agresión, ha!
La parte divertida es que nunca hemos pensado en nuestra banda tan comprometida con una causa, pero después de varios espectáculos, descubrimos que ser positivo es lo cosas más importante para nosotros, para formar y crear un ambiente tranquilo mientras estamos tocando.
"White Bird" es vuestro segundo EP. ¿Como fue el proceso de composicion y grabacion?
Junto a "Tide" y "Pledge", todas las canciones fueron escritas en un período de cuatro meses antes de las sesiones de grabación. A menudo trabajo con un calendario apretado por mis diferentes proyectos. No me importa, me gusta, en realidad. Creo que es bueno para estar pendiente de una sola cosa a la vez, y que se le dedique un tiempo determinado: pensar en ello, soñar con ello, manejar el material y finalmente dirigirse hacia algo que encaja. Las canciones quedan relacionados entre sí de una manera indescriptible y el resultado es más personal y poderoso. Por ejemplo, "Right Choice" fue escrito entre siete y diez días antes de llegar al estudio y es la canción más épica de la EP para mí.
¿Cómo ha sido la recepción de "White Bird"?
Hasta el momento la acogida ha sido bastante buena, yo creo que no decepcionó a nadie. Tal vez algunas personas se sorprendieron por la dirección que tomamos, pero nadie nos gritó diciendo que es una mierda!
Teneis dos EPs. ¿Cuándo vais a lanzar un álbum completo?
Pregunta en curso! El siguiente lanzamiento será un álbum. No hay fecha de momento.
En 2013 estuvisteis de gira en China. ¿Cómo fue el tema?
Fue impresionante. Perderte con tus mejores amigos compartiendo lo que te gusta, conocer gente nueva y nuevas bandas y descubrir un país en el que ninguno de nosotros había estado nunca ...es lo que deseas hacer una y otra vez.
¿Qué planes tienes para el futuro?
Estamos preparando tours! No se puede decir mucho más en este momento, excepto que pronto anunciremos una gira en Francia para finales del año, junto en el álbum.

Who are "The great divide"?
The great divide is Sébastien, lead singer; Clément, guitar; Michaël, bass; Julien, drummer and singer and myself, Antoine, guitar.
How was the band formed?
In 2011, when Sébastien and former bass player Fabien decided to create a Parisian modern hardcore band with friends and members of French bands he likes. Things got real in May 2012 when we released our first EP “Tales of Innocence and Experience." Featuring Scott Wade on "Leave Tomorrow" was an amazing kick start for us, and we still feel its good aftermath.
You define your style as "Modern Hardcore." Can you explain the concept of this style?
Basically, we use old school hardcore elements mixed with melodic punk rock elements to freshen it up, I’d say. It also incorporates post-hardcore and post-rock atmospheres and rhythms. But, honestly, I don’t know where the term comes from. Did we come up with it? Oh boy.
Which is the TGD philosophy?
The main thing about us is our positive attitude. We’re amazed to have the opportunity share our sound with everyone. To us, shows are like parties, or little celebrations. They’re moments that have to be powered by good energy. Plus, look at us! We’re not tough guys, it’d be stupid to advocate for violence and aggression, ha! The fun part is that we’ve never thought of our band as committed to a cause, but after several shows, we discovered that being positive was the most important things to us, to federate and create a peaceful atmosphere while we’re playing.
“White bird” is your second EP. What was it like to compose and record?
Beside “Tide” and “Pledge,” all tracks were written in a 4 month period before the recording sessions. I often work in a tight schedule for my different projects. I don’t mind, I like it, actually. I think it’s good to draw yourself into one thing at a time, and to be devoted to it during a certain time: thinking about it, dreaming about it, trying stuff and finally heading toward something that fits together. The tracks get related to each other in an indescribable way and the result is more personal and powerful. For instance, "Right Choice" was written 7 to 10 days before we hit the studio and it’s the most epic song of the EP for me.
How has the reception been for "White Bird"?
So far the reception has been pretty good, I don’t think we disappointed anyone. Maybe some people were surprised by the direction we took, but no one yelled at us saying it’s crap!
You have two EPs. When will you release a full album?
Ongoing question! Next release will be an album. No date to announce.
In 2013 you toured in China. How was that?
It was awesome. To get lost with your best friends sharing what you love, meeting new people and bands and discovering a country none of us had ever been to... you just want to do it over and over again.
What plans do you have for the future?
We’re planing tours! Can’t tell much more right now except an announcement soon for a tour in France at the end of the year, alongside working on the album.
