FOR THE GLORY. LISBOA HARDCORE!!!!

 For the Glory llevan desde 2003 dándolo todo y  son una de las bandas mas conocidas de la escena portuguesa. Hace poco editaron Lisbon Blues, y aprovechamos para hacerles esta entrevista.

 Para los que no os conocen, ¿ Quienes sois For The glory? ¿ Como surgío el grupo?

Comenzamos con la banda en 2003, estábamos de gira con otro grupo que teníamos y decidimos que necesitábamos  empezar un nuevo proyecto. En el momento  que llegamos a casa nos pusimos manos a la obra para hacer el grupo.
Ahora mismo FTG somos Ricardo, Sérgio, Rui y João.

¿Que tal el lanzamiento de Lisbon Blues? ¿ Esta teniendo buena acogida?

Fue increíble, hemos estado recibiendo toneladas de buenos comentarios del disco.Me refiero a que, nunca esperamos nada, así que cuando tenemos reacciones y buenos comentarios, realmente esto nos entusiasma.

  A algunas personas les gustan unas canciones, a otras personas otras, pero en general la reacción ha sido super positiva!

¿Que nos vamos a encontrar en Lisbon Blues?

Lisbon Blues es un disco de hardcore con canciones rápidas y groove. Me refiero a que este es el sonido FTG en 2013. Hemos crecido un poco en nivel musical,  por lo que decidimos y elegimos los mejores riffs que teníamos y tratamos de llegar a ello todos juntos. Es un disco realmente agresivo, porque era nuestro estado de ánimo en ese momento.

Las letras están basadas en temas de la vida real y es algo con lo que mucha gente se puede identificar, no sólo un mundo de fantasía o algo así,  con un puñado de todos somos hermanos, y bla bla bla...

Hemos tratado de llegar con letras reales, de los problemas reales que nos afectan a  nosotros, a nuestros seres queridos y a  la gente en general que nos rodea.

Ya son 10 años como banda, ¿ Como habéis evolucionado desde 2003 hasta ahora? ¿ Como ha sido vuestra trayectoria en el hardcore?

Empezamos la banda cuando éramos jóvenes, me atrevo a decir que para algunos de nosotros era la primera banda real que teníamos, con un montón de buenos comentarios de la escena en general. Así que creo que hemos crecido  como músicos, pero sobre todo como personas. 
 
Para algunos de nosotros la banda siempre ha estado ahí, durante nuestro proceso de crecimiento desde jóvenes. Me refiero a que hay gente que viene y va, creo que es parte de esto,en el momento en que se desea ir en una dirección y hay cinco personas involucradas en ello, la cuerda al final se rompe por algún sitio. Estos han sido diez años fantásticos siendo honesto.

Estáis acompañando a BIOHAZARD en su gira. ¿Como esta siendo la experiencia?

Hemos terminado las fechas Biohazard con una gran sonrisa en nuestras caras. Porque nos lo pasamos de maravilla y todo el mundo era  genial con nosotros, conocimos  nuevos amigos y nos reunimos con algunos viejos amigos. Así que en general ha sido fantástico, porque hemos sido capaces de pasar un buen rato, salir de nuestra rutina diaria y tocar con una banda que la mayoría de nosotros hemos desenterrado,  también tuvimos la oportunidad de estar con la familia y llegar a nuevo público con For The Glory. La mayoría de la gente para la que tocábamos no nos conocía, y ha ido muy bien, porque dejamos una buena impresión.

Poco a poco habéis ido saliendo del underground y habéis ido llegando cada vez a mas gente, ¿ Se ha hecho muy complicado llegar a este nivel?

Bien , no somos diferentes de lo que éramos antes. Quiero decir que no estamos en un nivel mainstream, seguimos tocando shows para setenta personas y shows para doscientas. Siempre que vaya gente a vernos, vamos a tocar.

Creemos mucho en esta banda , si la gente siente que nosotros amamos nuestros grupo estupendo, si no les gustamos, estupendo también. La gente tiene derecho a tener su opinión y siempre vamos a respetar eso.

Nos encanta el underground y nos encanta el hecho de que las bandas se ocupen de sus cosas, porque después de todo, esta es su música, sus ideas, sus vidas. Nadie debe meterse en la vida de otros y nosotros aplicamos esto en nuestro grupo.
 
Si crees en ti mismo y en tu música, entonces la gente va a reconocer el esfuerzo que estás haciendo. Ahora bien, si cambias de estilos y te subes al carro sólo porque la música que escuchas no es popular y no obtiene  reconocimiento,  entonces la gente ve que no lo estás haciendo con pasión. Todavía lo hacemos con pasión, de lo contrario esta banda ya estaría muerta!

¿Habeis recibido alguna critica negativa por esto ultimo?

Algunas personas nos preguntan por qué tocamos con tantos grupos de metal , o en grandes conciertos, pero mientras seamos sinceros con nosotros mismos y no actuemos como idiotas, hacemos lo nuestro a nuestra manera.

Escribimos la música que amamos y tocamos en los sitios  que pensamos que necesitamos tocar o en los que  queremos tocar.
Tenemos el control sobre todo lo relacionado con la banda.

 ¿Como veis la escena hardcore en 2013?

  
El Hardcore vive un buen momento, Europa esta fuerte y nos sentimos muy bien con el estado de forma de la escena hardcore es en estos momentos. por supuesto, siempre hay cosas que se pueden cambiar, pero volviendo atrás siempre ha habido cosas que la gente quería cambiar. Así que es una cuestión de equilibrio, lo bueno y lo malo, y encontrar un término medio donde todos podamos coexistir  intentando que prevalezca el sentido común. Hay muchas buenas bandas en este momento, y la gente mas mayor todavía puede mantenerse al día haciendo sus cosas. En Portugal tenemos nuevas bandas, straight edge, chavales del hardcore con ganas que sacan nuevos fanzines. Quiero decir que hay un montón de gente en los conciertos, aunque a veces esta un poco dividida, todavía hay un montón de gente que de verdad cree en la escena y trabaja duro para hacer que las cosas funcionen.

¿Que creéis que aporta For the glory a la escena?

Realmente no entiendo muy bien la pregunta, pero si es lo que podemos traer a la escena, no aportamos nada nuevo, pero sí queremos mantener y preservar los valores de lo que es el hardcore. la sinceridad, la pasión y la honestidad con una música agresiva basada en  letras reales sobre la vida y los valores.

A la hora de salir a tocar por Europa, ¿ Se nota que la península ( Portugal y España) estamos un poco apartados del resto de Europa?

Todavía estamos  de alguna manera un poco lejos y la gente del norte todavía juzga mucho algunas bandas por ser del sur.

Pero cada vez más, veo bandas del sur venirse arriba, tocando y haciendo mucho por romper las barreras que existían desde hace muchos años. También una gran cantidad de bandas que suben al norte y otras bandas más pequeñas les están echando una  mano, de esta manera la escena no morirá y habrá una mente abierta con respecto a la geografía. Hay muchas bandas fantásticas procedentes de países que no te esperas.

¿Que planes tenéis para el futuro inmediato?

Queremos girar tanto como podamos, y queremos tocar en los sitios que no pudimos hasta ahora.

Quiero decir que lo único que queremos hacer actualmente, es divertirnos con todos nuestros amigos, aparte de que no nos fijamos metas muy altas a las que llegar!

Yo sólo quería decir que la gente debe buscar su camino más allá de apariencia y estilo. Las bandas de Hardcore no son productos de la industria de la música, el momento en que convertimos nuestras bandas en un producto o simplemente en imagen, vamos a estar matando la escena, y el hardcore se convertirá en el nuevo Nu Metal.

- Para lo que no os conocen, ¿ Quienes sois For The glory? ¿ Como surgio el grupo?
We have started the band in 2003, we were on tour with other band we had and decided that we needed to start a new project. The moment we arrived home we got our hands to work and we made the band.
Right now FTG is Ricardo, Sérgio, Rui and João.

-¿ Que tal el lanzamiento de Lisbon Blues? ¿ Esta teniendo buena acogida?

it was amazing. we have been getting tons of good feedback on the record. i mean, we never expect anything, so when we have reactions and good feedback, it gets us really pumped.
Some people like some songs, other people like other songs, but overall the reaction has been super sweet!

-¿ Que nos vamos a encontrar en Lisbon Blues?

Lisbon Blues is an hardcore record with fast songs and groove. I mean it's the FTG sound in 2013. WE have grown up a little bit music wise so we kinda decided and choose the best riffs we had and tried to get them all together. It's a real aggressive record, cause it was our state of mind at the time.
The lyrics are based upon real life issues and it's something that a lot of people can relate to, not just a fantasy world or something, and def not a bunch we are all brothers and bla bla bla. We have tried to come up with real lyrics, from real problems that affect us and our beloved us and people in general around us.

- Ya son 10 años como banda, ¿ Como habeis evolucionado desde 2003 hasta ahora? ¿ Como ha sido vuestra trayectoria en el hardcore?

i mean we started the band when we were young, i dare to say that for some of us it was the first real band we had, with loads of good feedback from the scene in general. So i believe that we grew up a bit as musicians but especially as person. cause for some of us the band was always there during our youth growing process. I mean we had people come and go but i think it's part of it, the moment you want to go on a direction and there 5 people thinking, the rope will eventually break somewhere. This have been some real cool 10 years to be honest.

- Estais acompañando a BIOHAZARD en su gira. ¿Como esta siendo la experiencia?

We have finished the Biohazard dates with a huge smile on our faces. CAuse we had a blast and everybody was so cool to us, we met some new friends and we met some old friends. So overall it was super cool, cause we were able to have a good time, get out of our daily routine and play with a band that most of us dig, and then we also had the chance to be with friends and reach new crowd for FOR THE GLORY. Most of the people we played for did not knew us, so that was good, cause we made a good impression.

- Poco a poco habeis ido saliendo del underground y habeis ido llegando cada vez a mas gente, ¿ Se ha hecho muy complicado llegar a este nivel?

well we are not different than what we were back then. I mean we are not on a mainstream level, we still play shows for 70 people and shows for 200. as long as there is people to watch us, we will play.
We just believe in this band a lot, if people feel that we love our band cool, if they don't like us, tats cool swell. People have the right to have their opinion and we will always respect that.
We love the underground and we love the fact that bands take care of their stuff, cause after all this their music, their ideas, their lifes. No one should ever run others life and we apply that to this band.
if you believe in yourself and in your music then people will recognize the effort you're doing. Now if you change styles and go in bandwagons just because the music you play is not popular and you get no recognition then people will see you ain't doing it with passion. we still do it with passion, otherwise this band would be dead already!

-¿ Habeis recibido alguna critica negativa por esto ultimo?

some people ask us why do we play with metal bands a lot, or big shows, but as long as we are sincere to ourselves and don't act like assholes, i think we do our thing, our way.
We write music we love and we play the shows we think we need to play or want to play.
we have control on everything related to the band.

- ¿Como veis la escena hardcore en 2013?

hardcore lives a good moment, europe is going strong and we feel super good with the way hardcore is right now. of course there are always stuff you can change, but back in the days there were things that people wanted to change. So its a question of balance, the good and the bad and find a mid term where we can all exist and try to prevail good sense. There are so many good bands at the moment, and older people still keeping up doing their stuff. In portugal we have new bands, straightedge bands, hardcore kids with distress and putting out fanzines. i mean there is a lot of people at shows, even if sometimes its a bit divided, there are still plenty of people that truly believe in the scene and work hard to make things work out.

-¿ Que creeis que aporta For the glory a la escena?

i may not really understood the question, but if its what can we bring to the scene. we don't bring anything new but we do want to keep up and preserve the values of what hardcore is. sincerity, passion and honesty with an aggressive music based on true lyrics about life and values.

- A la hora de salir a tocar por Europa, ¿ Se nota que la peninsula ( Portugal y España) estamos un poco apartados del resto de Europa?

yes we still are a bit far way and people from north still judge a lot the bands from the south.
But more and more i see southern bands coming up and playing and doing a lot to break the barriers that existed for many years. Also a lot of bands from up north are now getting other smaller bands and giving them a hand, this way the scene will not die and there will be an open mind regarding geography. so many cool bands from countries we do not expect.

-¿ Que planes teneis para el futuro inmediato?

we want to tour as much as we can, and we want to play places we were not able to so far.
I mean the only thing we want to do actually, is to have fun with all our friends, apart from that we do not set really high goals to achieve!

Hardcore bands are not products from the music industry, the moment we take our bands into a product or just about image, we will be killing the scene, and hardcore will become the new Nu Metal.
