¿Quiénes sois DCA?
Fred toca el bajo, Joe toca la guitarra, Pouce a la bateria y yo (Loïc) canto! Todos nos juntamos en 2007 y empezamos a grabar demos en un sotano.
¿Cómo definiriais vuestro sonido?
Bueno, yo diría que esta contaminado por nuestro clima y los colores de nuestra zona, hace frío,todo es gris y sucio. Pero ponemos en el el poder de nuestras frustraciones y da una representación sincera de cómo se vive aquí.
¿Cuáles son vuestras principales influencias?
Todos escuchamos diferentes géneros de la música, pero los que trajeron a la vida DCA son unos pocos: Pennsylvannia Beatdown / escena hardcore (Unit 731, CDC, Taste the Steel) y algunas cosas más europeas como Arkangel, Knuckledust, Providence
¿Cuál es el mensaje que se lanzais con vuestras canciones?
Bueno, depende, me gusta hablar de las cosas que realmente me hacen daño, pero en la mayoría de las canciones Upsurge, hay algo en común, sobre el hecho de que a veces la gente debería cerrar la boca, tratar de cambiar su propia vida o tratar de hacer algo bueno en lugar de estar sólo gritando su opinión sobre todo inútilmente. Habla de cuando estas personas serán juzgadas en lugar de juzgar ellos, de una manera u otra.
En 2015 vio la luz Upsurge, vuestro primer álbum, ¿Cómo ha sido la recepción? ¿Estáis satisfecho con el resultado?
Estamos muy satisfechos con el resultado, a pesar de que nos llevó mucho tiempo después de la grabación lanzarlo. Mientras estábamos preparando el lanzamiento seguíamos evolucionando y trabajando, incluso escribimos algunas canciones, realmente diferentes y ya no podemos esperar
para mostrárselas al mundo. Así que sí estamos satisfechos pero ya estamos preparando lo siguiente.
Upsurge suena jodidamente bien, ¿ Donde habéis grabado? ¿Con quién habéis trabajado?
Grabamos en lo que ahora se ha convertido en mi estudio (La Main Noire) con mi compañero de trabajo y lo mezclamos allí también. La masterización se realizó en los EE.UU. por Joey Sturgis (Oceano, The Acacia Strain, Emmure ...)
Contarme un poco sobre las colaboraciones en Upsurge, ¿Os hubieran gustado mas colaboraciones?
Estamos muy contentos de cómo sonaban las colabos y agradecemos a Eric y Bobby su increíble trabajo!
Sí, por supuesto, hay otros cantantes de la escena con lo que nos gustaría compartir canciones, principalmente de bandas que nos inspiraron, pero todo tendrá su momento!!
La escena francesa es muy grande y tenéis grupos que son referentes en toda Europa, ¿Es difícil entrar en esta escena?
No veo la escena francesa como "grande", no hay muchas bandas y sólo unas pocas son realmente buenas (en mi opinión) Si quieres romper en la escena hay un montón de trabajo, tienes que ser serio y eficiente. Los franceses prefieren bandas extranjeras, es emocionante para ellos, incluso si las grupos son mierda.
Ya fuera de lo musical, nos gustaría hablar de todo lo que habéis vivido en Francia a principios de 2015, los ataques en París, la noticia de la amenaza yihadista en Francia. ¿Ha cambiado vuestra forma de vivir o de pensar con todo esto?
Bueno, por supuesto, nos quedamos impactados al principio, es una sensación que la gente de nuestra generación nunca ha tenido, todo este terror en su propio país. Pero entonces, como siempre, los franceses comenzaron a sentirse obligados a tomar partido y dar su opinión durante todo el día, y luchar en las redes sociales. Tenías los pros y los contras de "je suis charlie" y todas las personas que solo seguían la masa para demostrar que tenían algo que decir. De todos modos no juzgo nadie, pero en toda esta historia nos enfermaron dos cosas: el extremismo religioso y los franceses.
¿Cuales son vuestros planes para el futuro?
Principalmente queremos girar mucho para promover Upsurge, principalmente en nuevos países como el vuestro que nunca fuimos. Recientemente hemos firmado con MAD bookig, por lo que nuestro agente, Tim, está trabajando mucho en viajes futuros. Who are DCA?
Fred plays bass, Joe plays guitar, Pouce plays Drum and I ( Loïc ) sing ! Most of us met in 2007 and we started recording demos in a basement.
How do you define your sound?
Well I’d say it’s tainted with our climate and the colors of our area, it’s cold, grey and dirty. But we put in it the power of our frustrations and it gives you a sincere representation of how it is to live here.
What are your main influences?
We all listen to a lot of different music genres, but the ones who brought DCA to life are few : Pennsylvannia Beatdown / hardcore scene ( Unit 731 , CDC, Taste the Steel ) and some more European stuff like Arkangel, Knuckledust, Providence…
What is the message that you throw with your songs?
Well it depends, I like to talk about things that really hurt me, but in most of Upsurge’s songs, there’s something in common, about the fact that sometimes people should shut their mouth, try to change their own life or to do something good instead of just yelling their opinion about everything uselessly. It talks about when these people will be judged instead of judging, one way or another.
In 2015 came to light Upsurge, your first album, how you have been the reception? Are you satisfied with the result?
We’re very satisfied with the result, though it took us a long time after the recording session to release it. While we were preparing the release we all evolved and worked, we even wrote a few songs, really different and we already can’t wait to show them to the world. So yeah we’re satisifed but we’re already on the next step
Upsurge sounds fucking good, where you recorded? With whom have you worked?
We recorded in what became now my studio ( La Main Noire ) with my coworker and we mixed it there too. The mastering was done in the US by Joey Sturgis ( Oceano, The Acacia Strain, Emmure … )
Tell me about featuring’s in Upsurge, Would you have liked a more collaborations?
We’re really happy about how the feats sounded and we thank Eric and Bobby for their amazing work ! Yes of course there are other singers in the scene we’d like to share a track with, mainly from bands that inspired us, but everything comes in it’s time !!
The French scene is very large and as with well known groups across Europe, is it difficult to break into it?
I don’t see the French scene as “ Large ”, there not so much band and only a few one are really good ( in my opinion ) so for sure if you want to break in there’s a lot of work, you have to be serious and efficient. French people prefer foreign bands, it’s exciting for them, even if the band’s shit.
Whether out of the musical, We would like to speak of how you have lived everything that happened in France in early 2015, attacks in Paris, news of the jihadist threat in France. Have you changed your way of living or thinking all this?
Well of course we were shocked at first, it’s a feeling people of our generation never got, all this terror in your own country. But then, as always, French people started feeling forced to take sides and give their opinion all day long, and fight on the social networks. You had the pro and the con’s “ je suis charlie” and all the other people who were only following the mass to prove they had something to say. Anyway no judgment here, but this whole story sickened us about 2 things : religious extremism and French people
What are your future plans?
We mainly want to tour a lot to promote UPSURGE, mainly in new countries like yours we never went to. We recently signed on MAD tour bookig, so our agent, Tim, is working a lot on future tours.
